Donna’s Best Candy Cane Cooler Recipe
For a drink that looks and tastes like the holidays, look no further than this wonderful Candy Cane Cooler recipe from Donna’s Kitchen.
Ingredients:
2 cups of mint leaves (fresh, not dried)
1 bottle of vodka
5 large crushed candy canes
4 ounces of brandy
6 to 12 ounces of half and half
A splash of creme de menthe
Peppermint or vanilla syrup to taste
Crushed ice
Mint sprigs and little candy canes for garnish
The first part, infusing your vodka, needs to be done three days in advance. Simply wash your mint leaves and put them in a decanter. Then, add the vodka and stir it around. Cover it and store it for at least three days.
Now, to the fun part! Crush the five candy canes and put them in a jar that holds at least a quart. Then pour 12 ounces of vodka, four ounces of brandy and 6 to 12 ounces of half and half on top. Mix it up by shaking, then leave it alone for about half an hour to give the mints a chance to dissolve. By the time you get back to it, your drink should be a nice shade of pink. Shake it up some more and add one tablespoon of syrup at a time until it tastes right to you. This is also the perfect time to add a splash of creme de menthe.
Put it in the refrigerator until the party starts. Shake it up a little bit more before the guests come (just for good measure). Serve over ice in your prettiest glasses, and don’t forget to toss in a little mint leaf and hang a candy cane over the rim to garnish it.
If anyone says that the drink is a bit too strong, adding a little more half-and-half or some milk will cut it down a little. Once it’s perfect, this drink will definitely get rave reviews from all of your guests. So, enjoy the party and don’t forget to post lots of pictures for those who couldn’t make it.
